The Pakistan cricket team is set to kick off their two-match Test series against Asian rivals Bangladesh at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium on Wednesday (August 21). In the 13 previous encounters between the two teams across six series, Bangladesh has yet to secure a victory against Pakistan, who have emerged victorious in 12 out of the 13 Tests played. The home side will be looking to maintain their dominance over Bangladesh as they aim for another series win.

This time around as well, the preparation for Bangladesh has been far from ideal with all the political turmoil back home. Najmul Hossain Shanto’s side were humbled by Sri Lanka earlier this year but Bangladesh managed to draw the series against New Zealand which should give them some confidence.

Pakistan, on the other hand, haven’t played a single Test match so far this year. They will be going in with an all-pace attack for a home Test for the first time five years. The last time that Pakistan went into a home Test match with an all-pace attack was back in December 2019.

Shan Masood’s side will be boosted by the return to fitness of pacer Naseem Shah, who will join spearhead Shaheen Shah Afridi in the attack. Pacers Mohammad Ali and Khurram Shahzad will round off the fast bowling attack.

All-rounder Salman Ali Agha and his off-spinners are the only slow bowling option for Pakistan. For Bangladesh, talismanic all-rounder Shakib al Hasan has confirmed his availability for the entire two-Test series but they will miss the services of Mahmudul Hasan Joy, who has been ruled out due to groin injury.
